What is NFC?

NFC stands for Near Field Communication — a short-range wireless technology built into almost all modern smartphones. It's the same tech behind contactless payments.

Your TapTales product has a tiny NFC chip embedded inside — completely invisible. When your phone gets close enough, it reads the chip and opens your landmark experience instantly in the browser.

No app download. No Bluetooth pairing. No internet required to tap. Just hold your phone to the product and it works.

How to Tap

Wake your phone
Make sure your phone screen is on. NFC doesn't work when the screen is off on most devices.

Check NFC is switched on
Android: Settings → Connected devices → NFC. Toggle it on.
iPhone: NFC is always on for iOS 13+. No setup needed.

Hold the back of your phone to the product
Place the back of your phone flat against your TapTales souvenir. Keep it still for a moment — no pressing or clicking needed.

Feel the ping
Your phone will vibrate briefly and/or display a notification. Tap the notification (or it may open automatically) to launch the experience.

Explore in your browser
Your landmark experience opens in Safari, Chrome, or your default browser. No installation — it's a web page, designed to feel like an app.
Where is the NFC Reader?

iPhone
The NFC reader is located near the top of the phone, behind the camera area. Aim the top edge at the product.

Android
The NFC reader is typically in the centre of the back panel. Hold the middle of your phone against the product.
Still Not Working?

Try a different position Slowly slide the back of your phone across the product surface. The chip is small — sometimes it takes a moment to find the right spot.

Remove a thick phone case Very thick or metal cases can block NFC signals. Try removing your case and tapping again directly.

Restart your phone A simple restart can clear any temporary issues with the NFC reader on both iPhone and Android.

Check for conflicting apps Some Android NFC tag apps can intercept reads. Disable or close any NFC utility apps and try again.
